Call My Name wins bumper at Kilbeggan

Call My Name gave the yard another winner when stretching clear late on to land the concluding bumper at Kilbeggan. Adam Ryan was soon in front on the yard's Affinisea gelding, who was joined half-a-mile from home by early leader Myluckymaker and Walkwithmyfriend. The winner had been a touch unlucky when third on his debut at Tramore last month, getting hampered three furlongs from home. Willie Slattery said afterwards: "He clipped heels in the dip in Tramore. Other than that, he'd have been a close second. "I'd say Mick (Walsh) backed him all the way up. I'd say he had a nice few quid on him. I'd say the horse is probably for sale but I'd like to go for a maiden hurdle." (Quotes by John O'Riordan)

Letiza holds on at Roscommon

Trainer Andy Slattery's fine run of form continued at Roscommon this evening where Letiza landed a narrow win in the 12-furlong Oran Handicap. It was Slattery's second winner of the day after the success of Killeemore Lad at Downpatrick, and his fifth winner since Friday. Ridden by his son Andrew, the All Stars Racing Syndicate-owned six-year-old led approaching the furlong-pole and stuck at it well to beat her fellow 7/1 chance Stellar Moment by a head. There was less than a length separating the first four horses across the line. “We don't have her that long, about three months,” said Slattery. “She was in England and wasn't running well there so they brought her back. She's run well on every run for us and it was a good run in the Curragh the last day. I'm delighted to win for the lads, she's after being in a lot of stables. He (Andrew) thought he was in front too soon. He said he wouldn't hit the front again as soon as she was idling a bit. I think she'll go on soft ground too.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson

Killeemore Lad another winner for Slattery

Killeemore Lad continued Andy Slattery's good run with victory in the Cosy Group Beginners Steeplechase over an extended two-miles-three-furlongs at Downpatrick. The 7/2 chance tracked the leader in second and took over at the fifth fence. He was ridden after two out and stayed on well up the run-in to score by two and a half lengths for the Lumper Lane Syndicate. Jabbar took the runner-up berth at 5/2 joint favourite. Philip Donovan said: “I wanted to take a lead for as long as I could, but Pamela's horse (Griffin, Herja) wasn't doing a whole lot for me. She was taking me out of my rhythm everywhere. I just decided with a circuit to go to roll away. Got a bit lonely, but I always felt I was doing enough. He has a high cruising speed and this is a good horse, he just had a bit of trouble along the way. Delighted he got his head in front now. He lost nothing in defeat (runner-up in Roscommon and Tramore), maybe the last day (Tramore) he might have run back a bit quick. He's a horse at home that would show you all the signs that he wants to go and do it. I was happy everywhere today. His jumping is impeccable.”
